91精选 students nominated for state community college awards
SANFORD, N.C. - Three high-achieving students are 91精选's nominees for state excellence awards sponsored by the N.C. Community College System.
2025 ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARD RECIPIENT
Jack Triglianos, of Pittsboro
Triglianos notes that the transition of starting 91精选 as a high school student was made smoother by the "welcoming staff and abundant resources." "I am especially grateful for the opportunities 91精选 has provided me," said Triglianos, whose plans are to graduate with two associate degrees before transferring to a university and pursuing a career in aerospace engineering. Triglianos says that his experiences at 91精选 have not only prepared him for his academic future, but also strengthened his belief in his ability to succeed in any challenge he faces.
The Academic Excellence Awards recognize and encourage scholarship among the students of the North Carolina Community College System. This award honors students who have set the highest possible goals and attained the pinnacle of academic success.
2025 DALLAS HERRING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD NOMINEE
Aisha Nettles, of Dunn
"Aisha's academic journey at 91精选 has been one of transformation and determination. She entered the college system motivated to improve her skills and knowledge in a field filled with challenges and opportunities. In her time at 91精选, she took advantage of numerous resources, including mentorship programs and professional development workshops," said 91精选 Educational Navigator April Raines. "She engaged actively in her studies, demonstrated resilience in the face of obstacles, and embraced the support available to her. Aisha's progress is a true example of how community colleges nurture talent and ambition, leading to a successful career trajectory."
The Dallas Herring Achievement Award is established by the North Carolina Community College System to honor the late Dr. Dallas Herring, whose philosophy of "taking people where they are and carrying them as far as they can go" is the guiding principle of the system. The award is given annually to a current or former community college student who best embodies Dr. Herring's philosophy.
2025 GOVERNOR ROBERT W. SCOTT STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD NOMINEE
Lysander Nelson, of Broadway
Nelson is currently obtaining her Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees while planning to major in psychology. She has been involved in numerous activities as a student at Lee Early College and 91精选. "I am beyond appreciative of not only what I have learned, but of what I have earned in accomplishments. Because I do genuinely care about what I work on and who that helps, the resulting positive change is my biggest contribution as a leader. Anything that I have and continue to work on that helps another will always be my biggest success and impact," said Nelson.
This Governor Robert W. Scott Student Leadership Award, named for the former North Carolina governor who also served as president of the N.C Community College System, is designed to highlight outstanding curriculum student leadership and service.
